Go face forward this summer with long wearing makeup products Part 2

Part 2

This is the second part in the summer series which focuses on long-wear makeup for those humid summer days. In this segment I want to deal with makeup products for the eyes.  Before I cover this, I forgot to add to the initial foundation series, the use of a face primer to help ensure that your foundation has lasting power.

Ok, that’s out of the way so let’s get right into it….

Eyeliner– Makeup has come a long way from the traditional pencil eyeliner. Many companies are now making gel liners and self sharpening pencils. Moreover, you have  a myriad of choices in many brands that are smudge resistant, long-wearing and waterproof, in many fabulous colors! The choice to go with a gel formula or pencil version liner is really a personal preference. The list is endless here and I recommend the following for hot sunny days when you really need your eyeliner to stay put and not give you that “racoon eye” look, unless of course that is your aim.

Mark (by Avon) No Place To Run Eyeliners. These come in fabulous, very pigmented colors and are quite reasonably priced at under $10.

M.A.C. Fluidline gel eyeliner- This silky smooth, smudge resistant gel eyeliner has been compared to Bobbi Brown’s gel formula but retails for less at around $15.

With these gels you are not limited to just brown or black shades as you can enjoy colors such as Waveline and Macroviolet (shown in image)

Estee Lauder Doublewear eyeliner– In addition to a line of long-wear, stay in place  foundations, as I highlighted in part 1 of this series, Estee also has eyeliners in this product line that are smudgeproof and long-lasting. These retail for about $20. As a bonus, these liners come with a smudger attached to the opposite end of the pencil! Always a welcome addition….

Really and truly any waterproof or smudge resistant liner can work and the three listed here are just a few of my favourites.  A little trick to ensure that any liner has staying power, is to apply your liner and then top it with a similar color eyeshadow.

EyeshadowsNothing is more unattractive on the eyes than eyeshadow that appears “cracked” on the lids or patchy in certain areas on the eye due to fading, once the eyeshadow sets into the skin. This can occur at any time and is worsened by humid temperatures, especially, if like me, you have oily lids. This unsightly trend can be combated by using an eyeshadow base on the lids before applying your eyeshadow. This will increase the wear of your eyeshadow and you also get the added benefit of an intensified true color effect.

For those of you that have limited time to spend on doing makeup, prefer a quick and easy routine or would simply rather skip the step of adding a base, you can simply purchase highly pigmented, crease and fade proof eyeshadows. These can be bought from brands such as Revlon, L’ Oreal,  Makeup Forever, M.A.C,Chanel etc.

While many brands of eyeshadow claim to be longwearing and crease resistant, you will find that many will indeed crease/crack or fade. You really have to test the various brands and find one that works for you. Once you do, stick to it because you will enjoy the benefit of beautiful eyeshadows everyday!
